If the blood becomes too acidic the alkaline reserves will immediately raise the pH in order to maintain the blood pH at 7.36. These alkaline reserves consist of bicarbonates and we need these bicarbonates to get rid of the acid waste our body produces. If we don’t have a sufficient amount of bicarbonates in our blood our health will be compromised and we won’t be able to get rid of the acid waste from our body resulting in cholesterol, premature aging, kidney stones, etc...

THE ACID ALKALINE BALANCE - A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH
There are 2 numbers related to your body that are vital:
1. Your body temperature must be maintained at 98.6 °F or 37 °C.
This is why when it is hot outside, often times we will shiver or conversely when it’s cold, we sweat. This keeps your body temperature within a narrow, safe range.
2. Your blood pH level must be maintained at 7.36.
The blood is the basic source of everything, carrying oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. If this number was to fluctuate by only 1 or 2 points, you would be dead because it would literally change your chemistry. Think of it like a stove, if you unplug it from the power source there is no power and it won’t function. Similarly, it would be as if someone ‘unplugged’ all your organs, cells, everything!
What does a pH of 7.36 mean?
PH measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Is the balance between positively charged ions, which are acid forming and negatively charged ions, which are alkaline forming. The pH scale ranges from 0, being pure acid to 14, being pure alkaline. At a pH of 7 the solution is neutral which means the water contains equal amounts of positive or acid forming ions and negative or alkaline forming ions. If, for example, the pH is 6.2 it would mean the solution is acidic and there are more positive ions (acidic forming ions) than negative ions. Our body pH sits at 7.36, which is slightly alkaline.
ACID and ALKALINE FOODS
A healthy diet should consist of 75-80% alkaline foods and 20-25% acidic foods. The pH scale is a logarithmic scale which means it generally takes 20 parts alkalinity to balance 1 part acid. There are different degrees of alkalinity and acidity so this number may fluctuate slightly. However, using a cup of coffee as an example, we would need 20 cups of i.e. alkaline water to neutralize the acid created by the coffee. The chart below details alkaline and acidic foods.
Note: A foods acid or alkaline forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself i.e. lemons are very acidic however are alkaline forming in the body.
If we eat an imbalanced diet that is high in acidic foods like caffeine, animal protein and sugar it disrupts our pH. This forces our body to utilize its alkaline reserves or buffers such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium in order to neutralize the acid and remove from it from the body. As our alkaline reserves are depleted in order to neutralize excess acid, they leave the body in a compromised condition.
You may not be overweight but “over-acid”.
If there is too much acid in your system your body will hold onto the weight in order to protect it.

The consumption of high calcium diet is unlikely to prevent the negative calcium balance and probable bone loss induced by the consumption of high protein diet such as meat, milk and cheese.
We often hear of elderly person, especially an elderly woman, who fell and broke her hip.
Osteoporosis doesn’t come about quickly; it doesn’t automatically appear with the senior citizen package of social security package, low bus fares and other over-65 perks. We work for years to get our internal conditions just right for osteoporosis to finally be noticeable.
Whether or not you develop osteoporosis depends on the relationship between the amount of acid in intracellular and extracellular fluids and the amount of neutralizing organic substances in your body.
The sodium is the primary, first-call-upon minerals to buffer acid ash left from such protein-rich diet as cheese, milk and meat. As more and more organic sodium from vegetables and fruits is used to buffer a non-stop stream of acid ash-producing foods like dairy products, processed sugar and other fast foods, the sodium of your alkaline reserve will runs out.
When your alkaline reserve is gone and you are on a high-protein acid ash diet, the body’s immediate concern is to compensate for the absence of organic sodium. The Human Digestive System
Did you know different foods require different enzymes to aid in the digestive process? Some foods, such as proteins, require acids to digest, while others, such as starches, require alkaline digestive juices. If we are to eat, for example, a burger (protein) on a bun (starch) the acid and alkaline juices combine and essentially neutralize each other. This in turn slows down digestion. Poor digestion promotes an acidic bloodstream and we can't be properly nourished and healthy if we are not digesting our food.
Food combining refers to combining foods that are compatible with each other in terms of how they digest.
The Six Food Combining Principles
Perhaps the most important rule of food combining…Do NOT mix Starch Foods with Protein Foods! Why? In order for proteins to digest they need a very acidic environment where as carbohydrates (starches, fruits, sugars) and fats require a more alkaline medium. Whenever two or more foods are eaten at the same time that require opposite conditions the digestive system is compromised. This often results in gas, bloating and poor adsorption of nutrients. Obviously what we are talking about is in sharp contrast to much of the American diet; Meat and Potatoes, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Fish and Chips are all digestive nightmares!
Try to stick to 1 protein or 1 starch at a meal. Eating 2 different proteins at the same meal. i.e eggs and meat or cheese and nuts is very taxing on the digestive system because each protein requires a specific amount of digestive juice to be secreted. Eating too much concentrated starch foods at a meal may lead to fermentation. Our body's digestive system isn't designed to handle complex meals, so try to keep it simple.
Eat Starches with Veggies or low sugar fruits (i.e Avocados). Don't eat starches with Animal Protein, acids, fruits or oil. Eating starches with sugars (i.,e jam, honey, syrup) will produce fermentation. Again, this is contrary to much of the America diet; i.e. peanut butter and jam sandwiches, pancakes and syrup, toast and honey.
Low acid/sugar - high water content veggies combine with EVERYTHING! You can enjoy them with protein, starch, oils and other veggies! These vegetables largely reflect your body's composition of 70% water or more so load up on as many of these as you can.
Eat high sugar fruit on its own and in moderation. Fruits high in sugar are acid forming and digest extremely rapidly. Further, eat melons separately because they don't combine well with other foods due to the speed in which they digest.
Eat healthy oils with vegetables and low sugar fruits (i.e tomatoes and avocados, bell peppers, lemons and limes). Don't eat oils with protein because some foods i.e nuts are 50% fat and require 11 hours to digest!*
Other principles of proper digestion:
Don't wash down food with a drink (including water) as it dilutes the digestive juices. Drink before eating or 1 hour after a meal, especially if the meal included animal protein.
Chew food close to liquid consistency. We can assimilate and enjoy the nutrients only from those foods which are liquefied.
Our body is 70% water so try to enjoy foods that reflect this consistency. You should aim for ~70% of your diet to be water and water rich foods, ~20% to be starches, ~5-7% protein and the rest healthy oils.*

The process of sizing a tankless water heater involves six steps:
1.Temperature Rise
The entire operation of a tankless water heater is based on how hot you want your water to be when you use it. This is called the “temperature rise” and is a simple subtraction of the incoming water temperature from the water temperature that your tankless water heater would be set to deliver.
A comfortable shower temperature should not be much higher than 105°F (temperatures above 125°F are scalding). Lower temperatures will also prevent scale deposits from forming, which may affect the operation of the heater in the long run.
2. Flow Rate
After determining the temperature rise, you need to calculate how much water (in Gallons per Minute or GPM) your tankless water heater could deliver (if needed) at this temperature. This is called Peak Demand and is a simple addition of the flow rates of all the sources in your house that could be running simultaneously.
For your convenience, here some average flow rates per source. (all flow rates are in Gallons Per Minute): Shower-1 to3, Bathtab-2 to 4, Kithcen Sink-1 to 1.5, Laundry Sink-2.5 to 3, Lavatory-0.5, Dishwasher-1 to 3.
3.Voltage
Many retailers sell units that will accommodate 110V, 120V, 208V, 220V, 240V, and 277V.
4.Amperage/ Power
Different Electric Tankless Water Heaters will have various requirements in amp draw and power output. You will want to ensure that you can support the electrical demands of your Electric Tankless Water Heater. Typically, the power output of a Tankless Water Heater is calculated using the formula: Kw Rating = (GPM x Temperature Rise) / 6.83.

Power to heat up 1 gallon of water from 57 to 110F according to the multi-housing laundry association is 0.2 kWh. The annual power requirement of heating the water from 57 to 110F for an American household is: 29,145 gallons/ year x 0.2 kWh/ gallon = 5,900 kWh/ year
The cost of 5,900 kWh: 5,900 kWh/ year x $0.11/ kWh = $649/ year
The cost to keep one gallon of water hot is $0.003. So, the cost to keep 21,145 gallons of water hot (standby): 21,945 gallons/ year x $0.003/ gallon = $87
So the total annual cost of heating water using a traditional tank system is $649 + $85 or $736
Average annual tankless water heater costs
Average energy to heat water to 110F is 6.2 kW
Average daily usage is 1.5 hours
Daily power needed to heat the water to 110F is: 1.5 hours x 6.2 kW = 9.3 kWh
Annual costs to heat water using a tankless water heater is: 9.5 kWh/ day x 335 days/ year x $0.11/kWh = $343
The total cost of heating water using a tankless water heater is $343 + $17 or $360.
What do these numbers mean?
The percent annual savings using a tankless water heater over a traditional tank system is 50% or $375.
This amount ($375) is equal to the cost of an average mid-size tankless water heater. Please note: Installation costs were found to be comparable for both tank and tankless systems, ~$150.
